Funding for Traditional Music Programs, where?
2006-04-17
One of the practical cultural activities for implementation NQTU 5 (course VIII) is to organize traditional music programs; perform revolutionary songs and sing folk songs; and the ethnic art festival.
However, those useful activities now are very difficult to find funding. No money means that we are not able to organize any colorful and high quality programs, except for a small number of cases being funding from the State’s budget.
The sponsors said that they are willing to funding for any music activities provided that it has to have an affect on advertisement their brand and products more broadly, as impressive as possible. This matter is reasonable when considered under the business scope, but under the traditional social and educational responsibilities, it also needs a consideration. It is temporarily explained: Business only substantially succeed in an environment of social stability and patriotic community with beautiful soul and right aesthetics. Therefore, the cultural activities to serve for a healthy environment must be a priority funding, but in practice it is contrary!
The festival of revolutionary and traditional songs of Luu Huu Phuoc; The festival “Homeland melodies”; “Homeland voices”; The co-initiator festival; etc. ... has been implemented annually as a regular by Cultural Center Ho Chi Minh City, Exhibition Information Center Ho Chi Minh City, and the centers of cultural district. Those have no any funding supports.
Only the program “Autumn and ever” was held by HCMC Organization Performing Art Company serving those who were medical retirement, a veteran at City Theater on every 23rd monthly was the financing of Reetech ( approximately 12 million/show) because leaderships of the sponsor was under the revolutionary tradition family. Or this was the first time within ten years have a program “The performance of young talents in the academic art” at City Theater was received a sponsor.
Ms. Nguyen The Thanh, Deputy Director of the HCMC Department of Culture-Information had made so much efforts to “hair stand on end” to find out some sponsors for this top art program in which Viet Nam Airlines has free flights for young talent artists studying and working in oversea to have a chance of performing in Vietnam. Meanwhile, the miss beautiful festivals, music fashion shows have always found a sponsor and if it was a live television on VTV, HTV ... the funding will be more plentiful and easier. There were also some programs in which sole sponsor was up to more USD 50,000, main sponsor was around USD 30,000, and sub-sponsor was USD 10,000, etc. Meanwhile, the funding cost for a traditional music program was very rarely, and it was only about VND 12,000,000/show (USD 800) if any.
